Auxiliary & Winter Guard Description

Auxiliary Unit:

This team is made up of the letter, swing flag, & tall flag squads. They performin the fall with the marching band in competitions, parades, rallies, football games, and community events. All members are trained in dance, equipment, and marching technique. Training clinics/auditions are held in the spring and rehearsals are held during the summer/fall.

Winter Guard:

This team performs independently of the band. All members must be able to spin tall flag, rifle, and possess basic dance skills. This advanced group offerstraining clinics in early fall. Regular rehearsals begin after auditions andcontinue throughout the competitive season ending in early spring.

Winter Percussion/ Percussion Ensemble Description

Percussion Ensemble is a sub-group of the Marching Band and is only open to MB students. The ensemble or Percussion Line is by audition only and competes in events that the MB participates in throughout the season. The percussion line is generally made up of the battery (snare line, bass line, tenor line, cymbal line). Marching Mallets may also be incorporated. Percussion Line Rehearses after school from August to November.

Winter Percussion is an ensemble that is open to any student that attends Concord High School. Winter Percussion is a combination of Marching Percussion, Symphonic Percussion, Rhythm Section, Theater, and Dance. The two main sections are the Battery or Marching Percussion (Snares, Basses, Tenors, Cymbals) and the Pit (Marimba, Vibraphone, Xylophone, Bells, Chimes, Timpani, Concert Bass, Latin Percussion, Auxiliary Percussion, Guitar, Bass, Electric Piano, and Drum Set. Winter Percussion rehearses from September to March. Performances are from late Feb. until the 1st week of April.

Marching/Symphonic Band Course Description- Insturmental Music III (4720)

Eligibility:                   Grades 9-12
Prerequisite:                Teacher Recommendation

CHS Requirements:    This course is worth 5 units and fulfills one year of elective requirements.
College Track:                       This course fulfills the one-year Fine Arts requirements and the U.C./C.S.U.  “f” Requirement.
Instrumental Music III

Marching Band / Symphonic Band is an intermediate to advanced instrumental music class. Students must be able to play their instrument with an intermediate to advanced skill level, and teacher recommendation required for enrollment in this class. This band will give multiple performances throughout the year (including football games, half-time shows, street performances, band reviews, music festivals, and other performances and concerts). Marching Band will be a part of the activity of this band. Membership in this band is by teacher recommendation.

Students will learn beginning to advanced concepts in the Marching Arts. Students will learn the intermediate to advanced concepts in music theory, history, composition, pedagogy, and performance.
